English Language and English Literature

Students will take two GCSE examinations – English Language and English Literature.

for the current 3rd form and new 4th form (exams in 2017 and onward)

They will take courses in CIE English Language and English Literature

for the current 4th form into 5th (exams in 2016)

They take courses leading to a CIE IGCSE in English Language and an AQA GCSE in English Literature.

Reading is an incredibly important habit for life. All students are expected to read a variety of literature regularly. Students should aim to read a selection of the recommended books: GCSE Reading list 2013

CIE IGCSE English Language: one examination paper (non-fiction analysis); three coursework tasks (writing in different forms)

AQA GCSE English Literature: two examination papers (poetry/prose); one Controlled Assessment (Shakespeare/prose)
